Starting 7th August 2025, the PTE Academic Speaking section is getting a real-world upgrade. With the addition of the PTE Two New Speaking Tasks, the test is moving toward natural, practical communication.
If you're planning to take the test after this date, it’s important to understand the updated PTE Academic New Questions Format.
Why the Change?
Pearson has updated the PTE to reflect real-life English use—like discussing ideas in a group or solving everyday problems. These new tasks evaluate your ability to:
Listen and process information
Respond clearly and appropriately
Think and speak in real-time
What’s New?
1. Summarize Group Discussion
You will listen to a 2–3-minute academic discussion and give a short, objective summary.
Skills Tested:
Identifying main viewpoints
Using formal, fluent language
Staying neutral and concise
Tip: Practice summarizing YouTube panel discussions or group interviews in under 70 words.
2. Respond to a Situation
You’ll hear a brief scenario followed by a written prompt. After 10 seconds of prep time, you’ll speak for 40 seconds.
Skills Tested:
Interpreting situations
Giving polite, relevant replies
Speaking fluently under time pressure
Example: “I understand your concern. I’ll speak to the manager and get back to you shortly.”
Old vs New Format
The previous speaking format focused more on repetition and memorization. The PTE Two New Speaking Tasks now emphasize quick thinking and realistic communication skills you'll actually need when studying or working abroad.
How to Prepare
Listen to group discussions, debates, or podcasts to build active listening
Simulate test conditions using mock platforms or voice recordings
Practice real-world English speaking with friends or while doing daily tasks
Final Thoughts
The August 2025 PTE Speaking update isn’t just a small format change—it’s a major step toward testing useful, real-world English skills. With the PTE Academic New Questions Format, Pearson ensures you're ready not just for the test, but for real-life communication in English-speaking environments.
Start preparing now to stay ahead and perform confidently on exam day.
